GRUBBE, Margaret Julia Maria
Margaret Julia Maria Grubbe was born at Hampstead, London on 17 February 1911, only child of Lawrence Carrington Grubbe and his wife Marie Ellen Grubbe, née Seymour Lucas, daughter of John Seymour Lucas, who married at St Mary's Church, West Hampstead, London on 23 June 1909. In 1938 Margaret inherited the substantial estate of her uncle, Revd Reginald Hall Grubbe, vicar of Ardleigh, near Colchester, Essex. In 1939, an unmarried part-time land worker, living at The Priory, Blythburgh, Suffolk. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1949-1962 but had exhibited in 1941 'Flower Study' and exhibited from The Priory, Blythburgh, Suffolk in 1950, two watercolours 'Study of Irises' and 'Spring Flowers', in 1951 'Colours of Autumn', in 1952 'Winter Study' and 'Chrysanthemums' but although remaining an associate until 1962, did not exhibit again. She married late in life, at Blythburgh in 1975, Kenneth Gilbert Hubbard (20 February 1920-11 January 2004). Margaret Julia Maria Hubbard died at Blythburh, Suffolk on 6 January 1997. In 1940 her portrait playing the violin, was painted by Sydney Charles Seymour Lucas.
