MILLAR, Joy

As Minna Henrietta Joyce Collier, she was born at Marylebone, London on 15 February 1911, daughter of James Stansfield Collier (1870-9 February 1935), a physician, and his wife Minna Maude Summerhayes (c1875-15 June 1965), only daughter of Dr William Summerhayes of Loyterton, Beckenham, Kent, who married at All Souls, Langham Place, London on 1 September 1906. In 1935, as a 24-year-old art student, she travelled to Gibraltar and later to Egypt. She married at Llanelly, Carmarthenshire in 1941, Anthony Kendall Millar (born 4 January 1915), a journalist & news agency proprietor, who in 1939 was living at 37 Fonnereau Road, Ipswich. As Mrs Anthony (Joy Collier) Millar, an associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1944-1951 and exhibited in 1944 three oils, 'View near Manningtree', 'Portrait of Prince Gallizin' and 'Pilot of the Fleet Air Arm'. After the Second World War they seem to have lived in Shanghai where a son was born about 1950. Minna Henrietta Joyce Millar died at 4 Kensington Crescent, Orangezicht Cape, South Africa.
