ASHFORD, Herbert Frederick

1903 - 1984

Herbert Frederick Ashford, was born at Fulham, London on 7 October 1903, only child of Frederick Herbert Ashford, a scullery man, and his wife Elizabeth Jane, née Disley, who married at St George's Hanover Square, London in 1899. In 1911, a 7 year old scholar living at 2 Hasker Street, Chelsea, with his parents, 40 year old Frederick and 40 year old Elizabeth, and they had six lodgers including a 40 year old Francis Wilcock, decorative painter. Herbert married at Kensington, London in 1933, Liley Isabel Threadgill (1899-1975). An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1962-1972 and exhibited from 19 Ransome Road, Ipswich in 1962, two oil paintings 'Dutch Scene' and 'Church in the Woods', in 1963 'Old Churchyard Gate' and 'Boat Building' in 1964 an oil 'A Norfolk Lane' and was a regular exhibitor until 1970 when he had two oils on show 'Venetian Scene' and 'St. Caterina Del Sasso'. He died at Ipswich in November 1984.
