HITCHCOCK, (Elsie) Norah

1906 - 1993

As Elsie Norah Oliver, she was born at Devizes, Wiltshire on 24 June 1906, youngest of the three children of John Oliver (1872-1962), pharmacist, and his wife Bessie Sarah née Jesty (1868-1952), who married at Weymouth, Dorset in 1900 and both died in Suffolk. In 1911, a 4 year old living at 37 Market Place, Devizes with her parents, 39 year old John and 43 year old Bessie and two siblings, John Osborne 10 and Winifred Mary 8. Norah married at Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1931, Roland William Hitchcock (1902-1987) and in 1937 were living at Mill House, Layham, Suffolk. As Mrs Norah Hitchcock, an associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1963-1974+ and exhibited from Mill House, Layham in 1963 an oil painting 'Snow at Belstead', and the following year two oils 'In the Studio' and 'Water House, Layham' and in 1967 an oil 'Cool Landscape' and was a regular exhibitor, in 1970 showing an oil 'Fantazy' which seems to have been her last. He died at Ipswich in 1993.
