1911 - 1973

Christopher Richard Beverly Welford was born at Croydon, Surrey on 3 December 1911, son of Arthur Welford (20 January 1885-22 January1955), an architect, and his wife Dorothy née Beverly (3 August 1886-14 May 1984), who married at Marylebone, London in 1911 and in 1921 were living at 40 Glenilla Road, Hampstead with their two sons Christopher 9 and Peter Noel 6. Christopher married at St Michael's Church, Peasenhall, Suffolk on 22 January 1938, Charlotte Barbara Britten (10 June 1909-16 May 1989), daughter of Robert Britten. In 1939 Christopher was a general medical practitioner, living at Peasenhall Hall, Saxmundham, Suffolk with his wife Charlotte and their newly born son Thomas, which was the home of his parents Arthur and Dorothy Welford and his sibling sister Charlotte Elizabeth (10 June 1909-1989). After her husband's death in 1955, Dorothy married again, a Mr McLachlan. Christopher was an associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1967-1973 and exhibited from 16 Hauteville, St Peter Port, Guernsey, C.I. in 1967 an oil painting, 'Loch Ryan' and in 1968 two oils, 'Golgotha' and 'Grande Fauconiere, Jethou' but does not seem to have exhibited again. He was a keen sailor and an amateur designer of a blue water cruising 33-foot yacht which he had built by Whisstocks of Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1956, in which is reported to have sailed many thousands of miles including sailing up the Amazon. Christopher Richard Beverly Welford died at Les Heches Parish of St Saviour, Guernsey, C.I. on 18 September 1973, his widow died back in Suffolk.
