BARCLAY, Daphne Dorothy Crisp

1913 - 1985

As Daphne Dorothy Crisp Binny, she was born at Hindhead, Farnham, Surrey on 14 August 1913, daughter of Lt. Col. Alan James Murray Binny (1878-1966) and his wife Dorothy née Crisp (1881-1963), who married at Guildford, Surrey on 16 August 1910. Daphne married at Westminster, London in 1937, Walter Patrick Barclay, killed in Tunisia whilst Officer Commanding, the 6th Bn. Black Watch, on 21 May 1943, aged 43, and Daphne painted under the name of Mary Barclay. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1973-1985 and exhibited from Gatemanís, Stratford St Mary, Suffolk in 1973, an oil ''Thalatta' at Ipswich' and a watercolour 'Ipswich Docks' and the following year an oil 'Pensioner' and a watercolour 'Millie and Cygnet at Pin Mill' and was a regular exhibitor until the year of her death when she exhibited from the same address 'Barges at Ipswich'. She died at 'Gatemans', Stratford St Mary on 23 September 1985 and had a son and a daughter.
