Elsa Cooper

As Elsa Christie, she was born at Croydon, Surrey on 21 September 1915, only daughter of Leonard Henry Christie (12 February 1890-30 June 1977), a Lloyds insurance director, and his wife Helena (Nellie) Florence née Wilson (31 July 1889-2 January 1984), youngest daughter of John Wilson, who married at St Luke's Church, Thurleigh Road, Wandsworth, London on 2 September 1914. In 1939, Elsa was a fashion journalist, living at 'Hillcroft', The Glade, Banstead, Surrey with her parents. She married at St Andrew's Church, Kingswood, Banstead on 30 June 1940, Peter Francis Cooper (29 September 1914-) and painted under the name of Elsa Cooper. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1972 and was a regular exhibitor from 'The Postern', Marcus Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk including in 1973, three oil paintings 'Primroses', 'Vanishing Ipswich, Fore Street' and 'Pond Hall, Ipswich' and in 1980, two paintings 'Roses' and 'Autumn Roses'. Elsa Cooper died in the Colchester district of Essex on 12 April 2001.
