COOPER, Elsa

1915 - 2001

As Elsa Christie, she was born at Croydon, Surrey on 21 September 1915, daughter of Leonard Henry Christie (12 February 1890-1977), a Lloyds insurance director, and his wife Helena Florence née Wilson (31 July 1889-1984), who married at Wandsworth in 1914. In 1939 a fashion journalist living at 'Hillcroft', The Glade, Banstead, Surrey with her parents. She married at Banstead in 1940, Peter F. Cooper and painted under the name of Elsa Cooper. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1972-1985+ and was a regular exhibitor from 'The Postern', Marcus Road, Ipswich including in 1973 three oil paintings 'Primroses', 'Vanishing Ipswich, Fore Street' and 'Pond Hall, Ipswich' and in 1980 two paintings 'Roses' and 'Autumn Roses'. She died in the Colchester district of Essex in 2001.
