FROSTE, Peter Anthony

1935 - ?

Born at Cambridge and baptised at Little Shelford on 26 May 1935, son of Sidney Albert Edward Froste (25 September 1913-1976), a carpenter & joiner, and his wife Yvonne Florence née Browne (15 January 1913-2003), who married at Cambridge in 1934 and in 1939 were living at 1 Hall Villas, Great Bardfield, Braintree, Essex. After schooling at Great Bardfield, he studied at evening classes at Cambridge Technical College and School of Art, Peter then attended Chelsea School of Art and graduated in Fine Art Painting from Maidstone College of Art with a further post-graduate year at Leicester. After a career in commercial and archaeological illustration, retirement left him free to explore ideas initially formed at college, which are to do with maintaining the integrity of the picture surface, increasingly to simplify our view of the visual world, eschewing the Western World's emphasis on visual perspective and the personal marks of the creator-thereby making demands upon the viewer. He married at Maidstone, Kent in 1967, Mary Mason and they have two sons. A member of the Ipswich Art Club in 1977 and exhibited from 88 High Street, Wickham Market, Suffolk an oil sketch 'Portrait of Jackie'. Peter still produces illustrations for museums &c. some of which can been found on the Art UK website.
