Tricia Newell

Patricia Margaret Newell was born at Newbourne, Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1957, daughter of Harold Mark Newell (March 1921-29 March 2012), a market gardener, and his wife Dorothy née Frearson, Dorothy Newell, who married at Leicester in 1950. Tricia, as she is known, studied graphic design and illustration at Ipswich School of Art in the 70s and spent many years as a freelance illustrator of nature and children’s books. Her artistic exhibitions began when, aged 17, she entered the ‘Painters of Promise’ exhibitions at the Haste Gallery in Ipswich and as Tricia Newell was a member of the Ipswich Art Club, exhibiting from 30 Jackson Road, Newbourne, Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1977, two pictures 'Spring and Summer' and one untitled and a further three titles the following year. In 2014 she attended a workshop at Sudbourne Park Printmakers, where she discovered a love of woodcuts and is now a member at Sudbourne, with printmaking becoming her main artistic focus, producing etchings, woodcuts, collagraphs and dry-point prints with her inspiration coming from the natural world and exploring the detail, pattern, and textures. She has also exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition; The Royal Watercolour Society; Ellingham Mill, Bungay; the Norwich Print Fair; Snape Maltings Galleries; Rushlight Gallery at Reepham, Norfolk and at Sudbourne Park Printmakers and elsewhere.
