WOOD, David

1933 - 1996

Born in Scotland on 5 January 1933, son of Watson Wood, his grandfather was artist Frank Watson Wood (1862-1953). He studied art at Edinburgh College of Art, Sir John Cass College of Art, London and later at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. He exhibited extensively, including at the Royal Society of British Artists, Colchester Art Society, The Minories in Colchester, the John Russell Gallery in Ipswich, and Chappel Galleries in Essex. A member of the Colchester Art Society and the Ipswich Art Club where he exhibited three pictures from Gould House, Royal Square, Dedham in 1990, 'The Market, Lisbon', 'Medina, Tangiers' and 'Backyard, Mineapolis'. A well known painter and printmaker and was involved with the Gainsborough's House Print Workshop in Sudbury his work is held in the collections of the Royal College of Art and the Atkinson Art Gallery, Southport. David Wood had his gallery and lived for many years at Gould House, Dedham and he died of leukaemia on 13 November 1996.
