Mita Higton

As Maureen S Baldwin, she married at Malvern, Worcestershire in 2004, artist Stephen William Higton [q.v.] and works under the name of Mita Higton. It was as an expatriate in Dubai, UAR in the early 1990s that Mita first picked up a paint brush and discovered the joy of painting in watercolours. Her love for the medium has stayed constant and the East Anglian skies and the light that dominate its sea and landscapes have proved inspirational. Mita prefers to paint impressionistic, loose and vibrant paintings but is equally happy painting a portrait of a family member, a favourite pet or the beautiful coastline near her home in North Suffolk to where she moved about 2009. Mita belongs to Suffolk Open Studios, Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle, Suffolk Art Society and the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists'. Her work is on show at Picturecraft Gallery, Holt, Norfolk, The Sheep Shop, Cambridge and The Lemon Tree Bistro, Framlingham, Suffolk. She also exhibits her work at various local exhibitions in Norfolk and Suffolk including The Edmund Gallery, Bury St Edmunds; the Workshop, Snape Maltings, Snape and also has exhibited at The Society of Women Artists’ at the Mall Galleries, London. One of her painting 'Beached at Aldeburgh' was purchased by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra as a gift for their Principal Conductor, Yutaka Sado and a more recent painting ‘Minsmere Reeds’ was awarded the 'Society of All Artists', Artist of the Year 2012, Best Professional. She has her studio at Castle Villa, Wilby Road, Stradbroke, Eye, Suffolk. www.artsumitra.co.uk
