FLICK, John Robert
John Robert Flick was born at Wickham Market, Suffolk around 1806, son of Ann Flick, being baptised at Wickham Market on 24 May 1813, and was raised by Samuel Flick (1792-12 June 1875), bank agent and farmer, of Saxmundham. He studied for some time in Italy and married at Holborn, London in 1860, Annie Flick née Pye. In 1861, a 50-year-old portrait painter, living at 38 Devonshire Street, Finsbury with his 30-year-old wife Ann, born Nottingham, an artist in oils. In 1871, he gives his age as 56, and living at 10 Camden Street, St Pancras, London with his 41-year-old wife and in 1881, a 74-year-old ‘retired portrait painter’, living at The Elms, Earl Soham, Suffolk with his 52-year-old wife Annie and 87-year-old mother-in-law Mary Ann Pye. In 1883, he exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from Earl Soham, two oil paintings ‘A Slight Difficulty in Obtaining Money’ and ‘The Gleaner’. John Robert Flick died at Earl Soham on 25 September and buried on 30 September 1890, aged 84.
