FLOOD, William Charles

1864 - 1919

Born at Islington, London in 1864, son of William Flood (1820-1917), a clerk, and his wife Christiana [Catherine] née Liston (1834-1913), who married at St Giles, London in 1852. By 1871, 51 year old William sen. had retired to Foxhall Road, Rushmere St Andrew, Ipswich with his 37 year old wife Christiana and two daughters, Christiana A 18 and Caroline 16, with 7 year old William Charles and in 1881 William, sen. was a licensed victualler at the ‘Cock & Pye’ at 13 [Upper] Brook Street, Ipswich. William Charles exhibited at Ipswich Fine Art Club from Brook Street, Ipswich in 1882 two oils ‘The Song of the Shirt’ and ‘Stepping Stones’ and in 1883 four works 'Near Westerfield', two 'Portraits' and 'On the Gipping' but returned to London. During 1891-1901 a ‘clerk in civil service’ living with his parents and 46 year old sister Caroline, at 55 Aubert Street, Islington, London and by 1911 all four had moved to 119 Highbury Hill, Highbury, London when William Charles was a civil servant clerk, second division. He died at Islington in 1919, aged 55, he was unmarried.
