Reinhild Raistrick

Reinhild was born in Tanzania in March 1940, she married Brian Raistrick and paints under the name of Reinhild Raistrick. A botanical artist and has painted wild flowers in various parts of the world, from the Tien Shan Mountains, Kazakhstan to the Mediterranean, from East and South Africa to the British Isles and during 1991-1992 involved in painting flowers of the equatorial rainforests, Tanzania. Reinhild tutors in Botanical Painting at the Cambridge University Botanic Garden and also a tutor for the SBA Distance Learning Diploma Course. Her main interest is in painting wild flowers in situ and she exhibits both locally and nationally and has been awarded four Gold Medals by the Royal Horticultural Society. A member and exhibitor at the Society of Botanical Artists and also a member of the newly formed East Anglian Iceni Botanical Artists which group has a project on illustrating and recording the rare and endangered Breckland Flora. Reinhild has painted every known species of African violet in the East and West Usambara Mountains and in the coastal region of Tanga and Pangani Districts and in her book 'African Violets', Reinhild features 29 species of Saintpaulia each painted in-situ in Tanzania. A member and exhibitor at the Bury St Edmund's Art Society from Greenways, West Wood, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk. A number of her flower paintings from Tanzania were purchased by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew for their permanent collection and her work is featured in Curtis's 'Botanical Magazine' and the August 2000 edition devoted on the Genus Fritillaria and used her paintings.
