Niall Hennessy

John Niall Hennessy was born at Cashel, Tipperary, Ireland in 1941, his mother's maiden name was O'Neill. Niall, as he is known, was educated at Henry Harbin Secondary Modern, Poole, Dorset and studied at Ringwood Grammar School 1960-1966, being awarded a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Art/Art Studies. He married at Bromley, Kent in 1973, Elizabeth Hennessy née Wells and their son is Liam Hennessy. Niall was art teacher at Suffolk's Stoke-by-Nayland Middle School 1977-2007 and art technician at West Suffolk College. His main medium is print and screen-print, with his subject matter from the striking visual effects created by the light in East Anglia and the water meadows around Sudbury, Suffolk which are an ever-changing resource for trying to capture the nuances of shadow and colour. His work features in private collections, including the House of Lords. Most of his printmaking is made at the Gainsborough's House Print Workshop in Sudbury, with small edition print runs, normally five or ten. Niall Hennessy exhibited from 88 Queens Road, Sudbury, Suffolk at the 'Visions of Sudbury' at St Peter's Church in 2009, a screen print 'The Old Sudbury Boot Shop' and in 2013 a screen print 'Hollow Way near Borley'.
