Chloe Jowett

As Chl÷e Elisabeth Brayn, she was born at Nottingham in April 1943. She studied at Stourbridge Art College and, from the age of 18, at Edinburgh College of Art where she obtained a diploma, working under Robin Philipson; this was followed by a four-year postgraduate scholarship in picture restoration at Hornsey College, in conjunction with the National Gallery under Helmut Ruhemann. The Art and Archive Rescue Fund invited Chloe to Venice to help set up a restoration unit after their periodic floods. She married at Lambeth, London in 1970, Peter Graham Jowett [q.v.] and now paints under the name of Chloe Jowett. After her marriage she lived with her husband at Sudbury, Suffolk from where she taught and painted for many years. On the death of her husband in 1983 she made her home at 10 Saint Olafs Wynd, Kirkwall, Isle of Orkney. She exhibits regularly and her work is represented in the Orkney Islands Council collection.
