GODDARD, Henry Christmas

1829 - 1881

Born on 25 December 1829 and baptised at Aldeburgh, Suffolk on 2 January 1830, son of Henry Goddard, a miller, and his wife Eliza née Sewell. In 1851 a 21 year old miller living at Knodishall, Suffolk with his parents, 45 year old Henry and 42 year old Eliza and his three siblings and ten years later a visitor at the home of miller Thomas Buckmaster at Mellis, near Eye. He married at Knodishall in 1862, Mary Last and secondly at St Nicholas church, Great Yarmouthon 12 September 1869, Louisa Jane Jary and in 1871 a 40 year old miller living at Bell Green, Cratfield, Suffolk with his 33 year old wife, the home of his father. In 1881, when a ‘shopman’ and a patient in Lowestoft Hospital, he exhibited From 5 North Place, Lowestoft, at the Ipswich Fine Art Club amongst others ‘The Blenheim, East Indiaman’. His wife Louisa died later that year on 26 July, aged 43 and Henry followed two months later on 14 September, aged 51, and buried at Lowestoft St Margaret on 19 September 1881
