CORBOULD, Walton

1859 - 1919

Walton Corbould was born at Eldon Lodge, Victoria Road, Kensington, London on 28 December 1859, fifth child of artist Alfred Hitchens Corbould and his wife Mary Grace Keene (1826-8 March 1895), who married at St Mary's Chapel, Fulham, London on 31 October 1848, eldest daughter of the late Samuel Brown Keene, solicitor of Furnival's Inn, London and of Ipswich, and his wife Mary Grace, daughter of John Sparrowe of the Ancient House, Ipswich, young Mary Grace was the sister of Charles Samuel Keene and was a grandson of Henry Corbould. Walton was educated at Woodbridge School in Suffolk. He married at Winchelsea, Sussex on 28 December 1896, Annie Hephzibah [Nancy] née Wilson and they had three children, Charles Rosslyn, Allen Henry Francis, and another who died shortly after birth. An artist illustrator and for a time on the staff of 'The World' and was the author of the 'Mother Goose' stories and others. Walton Corbould died at 12 Woodgrange Avenue, Ealing, Middlesex on 13 April 1919 and buried at Hampstead two days later. A watercolour by him of his uncle Charles Samuel Keene is in the National Portrait Gallery.
