PHILLIPS, Marjorie Voss

1891 - 1948

Marjorie Voss Phillips was born at Lowestoft, Suffolk on 27 May 1891, daughter of Revd William Richmond Phillips (25 April 1860-18 November 1942) and his wife Emily Sturt (1863-10 January 1938), second daughter of William Sturt, a solicitor, who married at St Augustine's Church, Broxbourne, Hertfordshire on 30 December 1890 when they lived at South Lodge, Kirkley Cliff Road, Lowestoft. In 1911, Marjorie's father was master of South Lodge School, Lowestoft, where he was living with his 47-year-old wife Emily and 18-year-old Marjorie and many boarding pupils. Marjorie's mother died in 1938 and in 1939 Marjorie was living at 'Hortside', Kirkley Cliff Road, Lowestoft with her widowed father, a retired clerk in holy orders. Marjorie Voss Phillips died at Grove Lodge, Lambridge, Bath, Somerset on 19 September 1948 and buried in Kirkley, Lowestoft Cemetery, she was unmarried. Her painting 'Diketa Entering Lowestoft' is in the collection of Waveney District Council in Suffolk.
