EYLES, Geoffrey

1906 - 1965

Born at Wangford, near Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1906, youngest of the five children of Charles Eyles [q.v.] and his wife Emma Mary née Lucas, and was a brother to Derek Charles Eyles [q.v.]. Sometime between his birth and 1911, the family moved from Suffolk to 'Rydal', Tennyson Road, Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Like his brother an illustrator, and worked for the University Press, illustrating 'Round the World' series in 1937 and 'Along the Line' in 1938 also 'Air Land and Sea'. In 1939 an unmarried commercial artist living at 16 Spencer Road, Harpenden, Hertfordshire He married at Henley on Thames in 1946, Joan M. Payze and had two sons Robert Geoffrey, (born 1948) a sculptor and Nicholas Alan (born 1958) who is a scientist. He died at Watford, Hertfordshire in 1965, aged 58.
