SOUTHGATE, Ann Elizabeth

1836 - 1904

As Ann Elizabeth Brown, she was baptised at Kirk Bramwell, Doncaster, Yorkshire on 4 August 1836, daughter of James Andrew Brown and his wife Ann. She married at Doncaster in 1855, Abraham Southgate (1824-1894), a civil servant. In 1891 a 54 year old living at Rose Villa, Mervan Road, East Brixton, Lambeth, London with her 66 year old husband Abraham, who was born at Wells, Norfolk and their 32 year old unmarried daughter Emma, who was born in Scotland. In 1892 Abraham and his wife were living at The Hall, Bramfield, Suffolk and where her husband died in 1894. In 1901 a 64 year old widow, staying with her 44 year old son James T. Southgate, a solicitor, and his wife Eliza, hwo came from Halesworth, Suffolk, and their family at Penn Craig, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey but in 1900, as Mrs Southgate, is noted in Kelly's Director as living at Bramfield Hall and where she died in 1904. She painted a picture of The Street, Bramfield, Suffolk in 1897.
