BLOIS, Flavia Ria Joan

1914 - 1980

Flavia Ria Joan Blois was born at Cockfield Hall, Yoxford, Suffolk on 26 December 1914, youngest daughter of Sir Ralph Barrett MacNaghten Blois (21 November 1866-18 March 1950), 9th Bart. and his wife Winifred Grace Blois née Kennard, who married at Christ Church, Mayfair, London, on 30 April 1898. Flavia studied at Chelsea School of Art, Euston Road School and in Paris 1939-1940. She married on 20 August 1948, Julian Ward Snow, son of Henry Martin Snow (24 February 1910-24 January 1982), who on 21 September 1970, was created a Life Peer as Baron Burntwood, when Flavia became known as Lady Burntwood. As Miss Flavia Blois she exhibited at Royal Academy; the New English Art Club; London Group of Artists; Litchfield City Art Gallery and elsewhere. Her husband was with the Dunlop Rubber Company in India and East Africa between 1930 and 1937, and a Captain in the Royal Artillery during the Second World War and was Labour Member for Lichfield and Tamworth 1950-1970. They had an only child, Harriet Louise Julia Snow, born 5 November 1950. Flavia, Lady Burntwood, died at Westminster Hospital, London on 28 March 1980 and the funeral took place at Blythburgh, Suffolk on 9 April.
