BOHM (BAUER), Johanna Cecilia Hansi

1907 - 1996

Born in Vienna, Austria on 22 May 1907, daughter of Friedrich Fritz Bauer and Ida Bauer who was the former wife of Franz Böhm with whom she had issue. Johanna commenced her art training at Cizek's Vienna Art School, training as a commercial artist in the early 1930's before coming to London in 1939, where she learned photography and illustrated book covers. She later trained as an occupational therapist, with a view to entering art therapy which she had learned from Marie Petrie. Böhm was employed as an art therapist in an Essex Hospital, where she had two small rooms for pottery and painting. After the Second World War she spent a long time in the Walberswick area of Suffolk and had solo exhibitions in New York and at London's Drian Galleries and Cardiff Arts Centre. She died in London in February 1996.
