FRANCIS, Christopher Noel S

1941 - ?

Born at Gipping, Suffolk, his mother's maiden name was Robinson, and he grew up in the village of Dedham, Essex. After completing a 2-year course in photography at Regent Street Polytechnic in London he spent his career working with some of the best photographers in London. The most well-known studio was that of John Vickers (died 1976), the official photographer of the Old Vic Theatre also working on fashion and advertising photography until moving back to Suffolk. He married at Chelsea in 1965, Janice M. Thompson and took up painting seriously in 1997 when illnes forced him to retire from his career in theatre photography and as a designer. Chris Noel Francis creates very lively and quirky local landscapes and scenes in watercolour and oils with an emphasis on catching the mood and feel of his subjects which can be anything that catches his eye ranging from a well known local view to a moment or scene to which we can can all relate. He exhibits at 'Art on the Prom' at Felixstowe, Suffolk and is a member of Orwell Art Club and the Humberdoucy Group, tutored by Ken Cuthbert [q.v.] and also a member of the Ipswich Art Society from 14 Rosehill Road, Ipswich.
