Joe James

Born at St Ann, Jamaica in 1936. Joe studied painting in Jamaica under Edna Manley (1900-1987) and as a young man travelled to England to study at St Martin's School of Art. He travelled Europe and from 1961 lived and worked in Walberswick, Suffolk before returning to Jamaica where he opened a gallery in Runaway Bay and in 1966, he and his wife Joyce, opened a gallery at Rio Bueno, Trelawny on Jamaica's North Coast between Ochi Rios and Montego Bay and where he continues to paint. They also own the Hotel Rio Bueno, a favorite of artists, writers, tourists, independent travellers, locals and adventuresome first-time visitors.
