LEGG, Theodore Ellis

1888 - 1974

Born at Crouch End, Middlesex on 5 June 1888, son of David James Legg (1893-1926), secretary of the Religious Tract Society, and his wife Agnes Adam née Ellis (1851-1935), who married at Edmonton in 1887. In 1911, a 22 year old architect's assistant still living at Tintern, Mornington Road, Woodford Green, Essex and during the Great War served in the Royal Army Medical Corps. The Century Cinema, formerly at 237 High Road, Loughton, Essex which was opened in 1923, was designed by Legg, the then local architect. He married at West Ham, Essex in 1924, Dorothy Ellen Dorling (17 April 1900-1997) and they had five daughters, all born in Essex. In 1939, a chartered architect living at 63 Pier Avenue, Southwold, Suffolk with his wife Dorothy. A member and exhibitor at the Beccles Society of Artists. He died in the Lothingland district of Suffolk in 1974.
