BINYON, Mary Sims

1882 - 1976

Born at Ipswich on 22 May 1882, daughter of Brightwen Binyon [q.v.] and his wife Rachel Mary née Cudworth (1853-1949). In 1901, an 18 year old college student living at Branover, Wolsey Terrace, Walton cum Felixstowe with her parents and siblings. About 1903 the family moved to Haydon Ridge, Bushey, Hertfordshire where her father died in 1905 and in 1911 Mary was a 28 year old artist living at Haydon Ridge, with her 58 year old widowed mother with her siblings Basil 25 and Olive 22. At Bushey she probably attended the Herkomer School of Art and was also a pupil at the Bushey School of Painting 1906-1916, training under Lucy Kemp-Welch. An artist and a modeller, she exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1916. She died at Norwich on 14 November 1976, she was unmarried.
