PEPPER, William Edward

1857 - 1934

Born at Ipswich in 1857, second son of William Pepper, a sailor, and his wife Sarah Ann née Wilkinson, who married at Ipswich in 1854. In 1861, a 5 year old scholar living at 21 Foundry Road, Ipswich with his parents, 38 year old William and 28 year old Sarah Ann, with his two brothers, Frederick 5 and Walter 1, both born at Ipswich. His father had died by 1871 when Sarah was a 38 year old widow, living at the same address with her five orphaned children including 13 year old William. He studied at Ipswich Art School and passed his examinations in 1888, and in 1891, the year that he married, was a 33 year old law clerk, living at London Road, Ipswich with his mother and siblings, and married later that year Clara Helen Curtis. In 1901, a 43 year old law clerk living at 4 Cardigan Street, Ipswich with his 38 year old wife Clara, and two children, Mabel 8 and Harold Frederick 4, by 1911 they had moved along the road to 9 Cardigan Street. He died at Colchester, Essex in 1934, aged 76.
