DILLON-GIBBONS, Sylvia Mary

1912 - 2004

As Sylvia Mary Pollak, she was born at Willesden, Middlesex on 12 March 1912, daughter of Justin Erwin Pollak (1872-1951) and his wife Agnes Blanche née Wheeler (1881-1970), who married at Paddington in 1904. She seems to have added a 'c' into her name by 1927 when, as Pollack, she married at Bradford, Yorkshire, James L. Young and again as Pollack, secondly at Marylebone in 1946, Philip Allen Dillon-Gibbons (1912-1950). After the death of her husband, Sylvia and her parents moved to Southwold, Suffolk where both her parents, under the name of Pollak, died. Sylvia, who was a buyer for a department store, organised workshops for the Southwold Art Circle and exhibited a number of her own collages. She lived at Depewell, 55 Wangford Road, Reyden, Southwold, Suffolk where she died on 3 January 2004, aged 102.
