JANSSENS, Paul M

1963 - ?

Born at Willesden, London in 1963, son of Julien L. Janssens and his wife Ivy R. née Rawkins, who married at Ealing, London in 1948. He graduated from Chelsea School of Art in 1985. He works by experimenting with paint techniques including oils, watercolour, sgraffito and mixed media on wood paper and canvas. He has travelled extensively including New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Iberian Peninsular, Italy, Turkey, Ireland, Orkney Islands and London continuing to produce art work from his sketch books which has fed into his paintings. Each new destination has inspired him with the ever changing light and weather creating dramatic forms and textures, the coastlines of Ireland and Britain and wetlands of East Anglia always prove challenging and exciting subjects. He has exhibited in New Zealand and Portugal and in London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Cambridge, Ely, Snape Maltings, Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and Abbots Ripton. Also showing work at the Leabrooks gallery in Derbyshire, the Upstairs gallery, Beccles and the Espacio Gallery, London and has participated in the Cambridge Open Studios since 2003. A member of the March Hare Collective in Bury St Edmund's and also runs workshops for adults and children and undertakes commissions. He married in the Cambridge district in 1997, Catherine A. Barnes and has his studio at Fordham, Newmarket, Suffolk. [N.B. Fordham is in Cambridgeshire]
