Val Hall

As Valerie J. Humphreys she was born in 1950 and as Valerie Meyer, she married in the Hartismere district of Suffolk in 1992, Laurence J. Hall, and paints under the names of Val Meyer Hall and Val Hall. Over a period of years Val has tried working various different media including painting, ceramics, sewing and stained glass, but her greatest love is to work with silk fabric. In her twenties, Val learned about Batik-wax resist and dyes on silk or cotton-since when has worked with this media. Being inspired by nature, animals birds, plants, flowers and landscapes, naive medieval pictures, has made many Batiks inspired by 15th century manuscript paintings as well as early stained glass. On her move to East Anglia, was further inspired by landscape and nature and continued to do Batik as an enjoyable hobby. Whilst living in Suffolk, had a studio on the farm where she lived and regularly exhibited in local exhibitions having had her first solo exhibition in Ashwell, Hertfordshire in 1981. In 2007 she moved to Mellis, near Eye and is a member of Mellis Arts from 25 Lowgate Street, Eye, Suffolk and has been involved in developing the 'Gallery at the Railway Tavern'.
