SOWDEN, Trevor B

Born at Cardiff, Glamorgan in 1933, son of William Henry John Sowden (17 September 1897-1969), a baker bread maker, and his wife Clara Emily Sophia née Horton (4 December 1896-1973), who married at Cardiff on 2 April 1923 and in 1939 were living at 55 Merthyr Road, Pontypridd, Glamorgan. He studied at Cardiff College of Art and at the University of Wales where he obtained the National Diploma of Design (sculpture), he is also a graduate of the art teacher and, as a mature student, took an advanced diploma in Ceramics at Goldsmiths College, London. He married at Ilford in 1961, Madeleine A. Chabloz. After a career in teaching Trevor now works full time as an artist, an elected member of the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists, and was chairman of Gainsborough's House Print Workshop in 1999. Trevor exhibited from 10 Harefield, Sudbury, Suffolk at the 'Visions of Sudbury' show at St Peter's church, Sudbury in 2013, a linocut 'The Hospital, Long Melford'. He has also exhibited at Heritage Centre, Aberdare Glamorgan; South Woodford Library, London; Churchills Gallery, London; Gallery 44, Aldeburgh, Suffolk; Heffers Gallery, Cambridge; Mall Gallery, London; Westcliffe Gallery, Sheringham, Norfolk; Pond Gallery, Snape, Suffolk; Galerie Municipale, Chateau Neuf, France and Galerie Municipale, Jarnac, France. His work is held in private collections in France, Switzerland, Italy, America and the UK.
