CUSHING, Harold Sydney

1901 - 1985

Born at 1 Bevan Street, Lowestoft, Suffolk on 17 June 1901, second son of Arthur Cushing (10 February 1875-1952), a harness maker, and his wife Eliza Rebecca née Thurston (25 March 1877-1946), who married at Mutford in 1899. In 1911, a 9 year old living at 90 Philadelphia Lane, Norwich with his grand-parents, George and Rosetta Norton. In 1918, at the age of 17, admitted a member of the National Union of Railwaymen. A member and exhibitor at the Beccles Society of Artists 1977-1985. In 1939 an umarried locomotion fireman, living at 268 Denmark Road, Lowestoft with his parents and sibling Audrey May Cushing (18 February 1907-2003). He died in the Great Yarmouth district in 1985. One of his watercolours 'Sailing Boats on Oulton Broad' (27cm x 36.5cm) was offered for sale by auction.
