CORNELL, Benjamin

c.1804 - 1866

Born at Higham, near Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk about 1804. He married at the adjacent village of Denham on 3 April 1834, Eliza Hall and they came to live in Ipswich. A member of the Ipswich Society of Professional & Amateur Artists from 1835, where he was probably tutored by Henry Davy [q.v.]. In 1851 a 48 year old wharfinger & agent, living at Felaw House, Foundation Street, Ipswich with his 42 year old wife Eliza, born Denham, with four children Fanny 15, Mary 12, Kate 9 and Joseph 7, all born at Ipswich. In 1861, now a merchant's clerk, was living with his wife at Wattisfield Road, Walsham le Willows, Suffolk. He was buried in Ipswich Cemetery on 14 September 1866, aged 62.
