GARROD, George
George Garrod was born at Stradbroke, Suffolk around 1797. A member of the Ipswich Society of Professional & Amateur Artists from 1834, where he was tutored by Henry Davy. He married Ann and in 1841, an innkeeper, living at King Street, Ipswich but by 1851, a 53-year-old railway clerk, living at Berners Street, Ipswich with his 63-year-old wife Ann (1787-1853), born at Holbrook, Suffolk. His wife died in 1853 and in 1861, George was a 63-year-old accountant, lodging at Friars Road, Ipswich, the home of Robert Taylor, a coffee house keeper, and his family but ten years later, an accountant, living with his 71-year-old brother John, who kept the Golden Lion public house on the Cornhill, Ipswich. George Garrod was buried in Ipswich Cemetery on 23 September 1872, aged 75.
