SEWARD, William

1811 - 1846

Born at Bocking, Essex on 27 October 1811, son of Samuel Seward and his wife Jane. A member of the Ipswich Society of Professional & Amateur Artists from 1832, where he was probably tutored by Henry Davy [q.v.]. In 1841 a 30 year old land surveyor & shorthand writer of St Helen’s Street, Ipswich with his 30 year old wife Elizabeth and children William 4 and Henry Christian 11 months. Noted in White’s Directory of Suffolk for 1844 as a newsagent and correspondent to 'Bury & Suffolk Herald', of Norwich Road, Ipswich also a land surveyor in the same directory. He died at Manchester ‘late of Ipswich’ on 19 September 1846, aged 34.
