PENTNEY, Thomas John

1855 - 1937

Born Thomas John Pentney at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk in 1855, son of John Pentney (1829-1861), a brushmaker, and his wife Harriet née Cobb, who married in the Thingoe district of Suffolk in 1852. In 1861 a 5 year old living at Mustow Street, Bury St Edmunds with his parents, 29 year old John and 30 year old Harriet with his sibling sister Harriet Emma 3. In 1871, a 15 year old painter's apprentice living at Mustow Street, Bury St Edmunds with his 38[sic] widowed mother 'a tailoress' and his sisert 13 year old Emma. He married at Thingoe, Suffolk in 1878 and exhibited at the Bury & Suffolk Fine Art Society in 1881 an oil 'Before the Storm'. In 1891, a 35 year old 'manager of printing & newspaper publishing business' living at Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds with his 34 year old wife Rose Ann, born West Stow, Suffolk and their two children, Cecil C. 3 and Oliver G. 1, both born in Bury St Edmund's. By 1911 they had moved to 6 South Parade, Huddersfield, Yorkshire where 55 year old John Thomas was a photographer with his 54 year old wife Rose Ann and children Florence May 29, Cecil Claud 23 and Oliver Gordon 21 and they took in two boarders. He died at Huddersfield in 1937, aged 81.
