JONES, Val - Valerie A

Originally from North London where she attended Hornsey School of Art but has lived in Suffolk for over forty years. She studied at St Osyths, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex gaining her teaching qualification, and then worked in schools in Suffolk and Essex teaching art at 'A Level' most recently at Hedingham before taking early retirement. Val spent some time travelling in Australia, where she painted murals, and the Cook Islands returning to England and purchasing and managing an Interior Design business for 7 years. Her passion for art continued and in 2013 she gained a BA Hons in Fine Art and is currently working towards her MA in Arts Practice at University Campus Suffolk in Ipswich. Val enjoys the versatility of undertaking printmaking, sculpture and mixed media but is mainly a painter but likes to experiment with mixed media and printmaking but drawing is an important starting-point, when the magical quality of paint takes over and develops a life of its own. Val has exhibited at Prettys Art Exhibitions, Ipswich; Ipswich Art School Gallery; Ipswich Waterfront Gallery, Ipswich; Caroline Wiseman, The Lookout, Aldeburgh, Suffolk; Truman Gallery, Brick Lane, London and a solo exhibition at The Freudian Art Show and St Helens Street, Ipswich. She can also offer short courses or private tuition and is a member of the Suffolk Open Studios from Firbank, Acton Lane, Sudbury, Suffolk.
