PALMER, Walter
Walter Palmer was born at Southtown, then in Suffolk but now in Norfolk, in 1855, eldest child of Frederick Palmer (c1828-8 July 1905), landowner, and his wife Barbara Ivory née Kiddle (2 February 1826-1902), who married at St George's Bloomsbury, London on 13 April 1850. In 1871, Walter was a 15-year-old, living at South Beach Lodge, Southtown, Great Yarmouth with his parents, 40-year-old Frederick and 34-year-old Barbara, with four siblings, Frederica 12, Alice 10, Guy Kerrison (1862-1940) and Hubert 6, and they retained three indoor servants. Walter exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from South Beach Lodge, Southtown in 1882 two paintings, 'North Tower, Great Yarmouth' and 'Winter on the Yare' and in 1883 four oils, 'Yarmouth Roads', 'Caistor Beach, near Great Yarmouth', 'Old Jetty, Great Yarmouth' and 'Fishing Smacks, Yarmouth Roads'. In 1891, of no occupation, living at 9 Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth with his parents and siblings and were still there ten years later but in 1891 had reduced their ages by some five years and in 1901 by ten years when Walter's birth is given as 1865 and his mother's as 1842.
