TUCKER, Mary Jane

1841 - 1885

Mary Jane Tucker was born at Charlton Kings, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in 1841, daughter of Revd John Kinsman Tucker and his wife Sarah Henrietta née Shepherd (16 March 1805-13 May 1888), who married at Plymouth, Devon on 10 September 1834. An artistic person who painted several watercolours of village scenes at Pettaugh, including the rectory, church, and other views. The old rectory was destroyed by fire in November 1881 when her father erected the current building. She married at Pettaugh in 1870, Revd Francis Robert Wellard Malpas (1844-28 November 1906) and in 1871, 27-year-old Francis was the local curate, living at Village Street, Leftwich, Nantwich, Cheshire with his 29-year-old wife Mary Jane and sister-in-law, 17-year-old Charlotte Tucker. In 1881, 39[sic] year old Mary was living at Little Horwood Vicarage, Winslow, Buckinghamshire, with her 39[sic] year old husband Francis and had living with them 24-year-old Revd E. W. Collins, curate at Little Horwood. Mary Jane Malpas died at Little Horwood, Winslow on 7 June 1885, aged 44, she had no issue.
