ADE, Staney Harrison

1894 - 1953

Stanley Harrison Ade was born at Douglas, Isle of Man, on 27 March 1894 and baptised at St Thomas's, Douglas on 6 January 1895, son of Stanley William Ade (15 April 1867-24 August 1948), a professor of music, and his wife Eliza née Harrison (13 March 1864-4 June 1960), who married at Kirk Braddan, Isle of Man on 2 May 1892. In 1911, young Stanley was a 17-year-old 'financier's clerk', living at 126 Woodchurch Road, Oxton, Birkenhead, Cheshire with his parents, 43-year-old Stanley and 43[sic] year old Eliza, with two siblings, Edith Lilian 13 and Elsie Emily 8. Stanley married at Nottingham in 1922, Evelyn May Riches (2 May 1900-18 January 1986) and they moved to Blythburgh, Suffolk where they kept the local Post Office and where their two children were born, Evelyn J. [Harvey] in 1925 and Michael J. H. in 1933. In 1939 Stanley was a grocery & provision dealer, living at Blythburgh Post Office with his wife and two children. An amateur watercolour artist who painted pictures of Blythburgh Church, which were displayed within the church. He also exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1941 two watercolours 'Evening' and 'Blythburgh Church', in 1942 'View from Stackyard, Blythburgh' and 'The Reflecting Sand', in 1943 'Through the Stackyard, Blythburgh and in 1944 'The Passing Storm' and 'A British Port'. Stanley Harrison Ade died at his home, 'Ivydene', Church Road, Blythburgh on 4 November 1953 and buried in the local churchyard.
