BUTLER, Berenice

1901 - 1965

Berenice Butler, was born at Dunedin, New Zealand on 25 September 1901, daughter of artist George Edmund Butler [q.v.], and his first wife Sarah Jane née Popplestone (1870-1928), who married at Lyndhurst, Hampshire on 29 April 1899. In 1911, a 9 year old living at Eastfield Road, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol with her parents, 39 year old George and 40 year old Jane, with her sibling brother, Joseph Brian 4, born Weedon, Buckinghamshire and they had a visitor, 23 year old art student Julia Daniels, born Chicago, USA. Berenice exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from 'Poppletons', Trimley, near Ipswich in 1927 an oil, 'A Suffolk Punch (from Mr C. C. Smith's Farm)' and a watercolour 'Jane Eyre'. She married at Brentford, Middlesex in 1936, Guy Richard Bisby. In 1939, 'formerly an artist' living at 8 Cross Deep Gardens, Twickenham, Middlesex with her husband 'assistant at the Commonwealth Mycological Institute in Kew' who was born on 17 August 1889 and died at 77 Chertsey Road, Egham, Surrey on 3 September 1958. Of 'Marizion', Thame Road, Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire, when she died at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire on 8 November 1965, aged 64.
