THEYRE, Margaret Isabel Clarence

1897 - 1977

Born Margaret Isabel Clarence Smith at Dodford, Northamptonshire on 28 February 1897, youngest child of Revd Clarence Smith (1846-1917) and his wife Eliza Ellen Amy née Milne (1854-1918), who married at Lillington, Warwickshire on 30 June 1885. In 1901, a 4 year old living at the The Vicarage, Dodford, Daventry, Northamptonshire with her parents, 55 year old Clarence and 46 year old Eliza, with siblings Aimee Violet Evelyn 14 and Spencer Milne Clarence 5 and they kept five indoor staff. On 25 July 1911, when of Braunton, Devon, Clarence, on the death of his eldest brother Spencer Theyre Smith (1834-1911) they changed the family name to Theyre and took his brother's home in Holborn, London. In 1927 she exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Society from 265 King's Road, Chelsea, London one painting 'Ski-running' and in 1938 exhibited from the same address at the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art 'The White Cow', she also exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery; the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour; the Grosvenor Gallery and the Paris Salon. In 1939 living on private means at Newfoundort, Reeds Lane, Horsham, Sussex. She died in mid-Surrey district in 1977, she was unmarried.
