EGGINTON, Wycliffe

1875 - 1951

Born at Kings Norton, Worcestershire on 12 October 1875 and baptised at Birmingham on 7 September 1879, eldest child of John Egginton and his wife Elizabeth Sarah née Green, who married at Kings Norton in 1874. Wycliffe was educated in Birmingham and Wallasey. He married at Birkenhead, Cheshire in 1902, Edith Calder (born 26 April 1880-1957) and in 1911 an art master and artist living at 15 Kingsteignton Road, Newton Abbot, Devon with his 30 year old wife Edith and four children, Douglas Wycliffe 6, Edith Lucy 3, Francis John 2, all born Wallasey, Cheshire and newly born Elizabeth Mary, born Newton Abbot. Headmaster at Newton Abbot College, Devon, and a landscape painter in oil and watercolour and elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1912 and had a number of one-man shows at the Fine Art Society and Paris Salon. He also exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1923 a watercolour 'The Estuary'. In 1939 a landscape & portrait artist living at 3 South View, Teignmouth, Devon where he died in June 1951. His son (Francis John) Frank Egginton (10 November 19087 April 1990) was also an artist.
