WHEATON, Richard Gledhill

1868 - 1928

Born at Salisbury, Wiltshire in 1868 and baptised on 14 Apr 1869, son of Samuel Bird Wheaton (1814-1910) and his wife Hannah Elizabeth née Walton, who married at Halifax, Yorkshire in 1860. In 1871 a 2 year old living at St Edmunds School, Salisbury where his 30 year old father was headmaster and 36 year old mother a schoolmistress, with six siblings, Samuel W. 10, Elizabeth B. 9, Ann F. 7, Emma 5, Mary H. 4 and Catherine 1, all born in Wiltshire but by 1881 they had moved to 12 Queen Square, Battersea, London. In 1901 a 32 year old carver & modeller boarding at 15 Waterford Road, Fulham, London and married at Fulham in 1904, Rosina Jane Eldridge. In 1911 in the same occupation but living at 6 Jubilee Place, Chelsea, London with his 38 year old wife Rosina. In 1916 he had his business at 36 Maxwell Road, Fulham but later moved to Fishmarket Street, Thaxted, Essex. He exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from Thaxted, Essex in 1923, two oils 'Watling Street from the Churchyard Thaxted' and 'Thaxted Church, South Porch' He died at Cambridge in 1928, aged 61.
