Stuart Atkinson

Stuart Atkinson, was born at 39 Dailyhill Lane, Bradford, Yorkshire in 1940, son of Jack Atkinson (21-July 1917-26 April 1978), motor mechanic, and his wife Alice née Hainsworth (28 May 1914-1992), who married at Bradford in 1939. Stuart developed his love of painting working mainly in the Yorkshire dales. In the late 1960s he moved to Jersey, C.I., and during his 25 year stay, painted prolifically throughout the Channel Islands also in France, Germany and Greece. Exhibiting regularly in Guernsey at the Sula Gallery, Les Vauxbelets and Coach House Gallery, St Peter's Port, becoming one of the foremost contemporary Channel Islands artists, his other exhibitions included Rotary Tri-Culture Exhibition in Langres, France and Hanau, Germany. In 1995, Stuart and his wife Canda moved to Eyke, Suffolk and, after various exhibitions, had his first Suffolk one-man exhibition in 2001 and now exhibits regularly throughout Suffolk and Norfolk including Aldeburgh Cinema Gallery; the Big Shed, Iken and The Barn, Parkside, Lower Ufford, Woodbridge. Stuart lived at Eyke for some 20 years but now lives in Old Rendlesham, near Woodbridge with his wife, but still teaches art at Ufford where he had a studio at The Stables, Lower Road, Ufford but now has his studio at his home. Stuartís work is held in many private collections worldwide as well as in corporate collections including Kleinwort Benson and Bank of Bermuda and his pictures form part of the collection of the Guernsey Museum and Art Gallery in the Channel Islands. His work is now on permanent display at The Granary Home & Antiques, Grange Farm Barns, Grundisburgh Road, Hasketon, near Woodbridge where he exhibits oil paintings, watercolours and sketches, both framed or unframed, as well as his popular greeting cards. www.atkinsonpaintings.co.uk
