SMITH, Philip Charles

1878 - 1976

Born at Custom House Plaistow, Essex on 1 November 1878, third son of James Smith, labourer in an iron works, and his wife Elsie. Originally a house painter, he married at Poplar, London in 1909, Louisa Maud Nutman (born 5 February 1878) and in 1911 a 32 year old house painter, living at 40 Lucas Avenue, Upton Park, West Ham, London with his 33 year old wife Louisa and their newly born daughter Eleanor Emily. In 1939, a ship painter living at Saint Field, Billericay, Essex with his wife Louise. He exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1941, two works 'The Deben, Full Tide' and 'Trees at Martlesham'. He was buried at Rayne, Essex in 1976
