HOPKING, Noel Hubert

1882 - 1964

Born at Hackney, London on 25 December 1882, son of George Hopking, a tea dealer of Watlington, Norfolk, and his wife Mary Ann née Holmes, who married at Hackney in 1865, Noel was a brother to Mildred Mary Hopking [q.v.]. He served in 5th Reserve Battalion of the London Regiment during the First Word War. He married at Edmonton, London in 1929 Florence Bassingham Perman (12 May 1893-1978). A painter, poster designer and book illustrator including for Enid Blyton's 'Second Holiday Book' (1947), 'Nature Lover's Book' (1958) and 'Treasury Book' (1965). In 1939 an artist painter living at Hill Farm, Great Wenham, with his wife Florence, the home of his brother Frederick George Hopking, a marine underwriter. He died at Horsham, Sussex in 1964.
