James Allen

James was born at Framlingham, Suffolk, the youngest son of Percy Frederick Allen, one of the town's butchers, and from an early age James took a keen interest in sketching, both landscape and wild life. He joined the Army and served with the East Anglian Regimental Band during which time he commenced studying oil painting. On leaving the Army he settled in Norwich, working for Laurence & Scott's Electro Motors Plc as an industrial artist. In 1977 he decided to become a professional artist; concentrating on local East Anglian landscapes & seascapes, wild life and more recently, still life, working in oil on small canvas boards. A member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1972-1982 and his work has been exhibited throughout East Anglia and also in London and has been selected for exhibition at the Royal Academy and the Royal Miniature Society and he regularly exhibits at the Southwold Gallery, Suffolk. Many of his pictures are in collections in the UK and abroad. He was living at Rockland All Saints, Norfolk in 2014.
