NICHOLSON, Misses

In a list of pupils of artist Henry Bright between 1836-1856 are the Misses Nicholson of Upper Street, Ufford, Woodbridge, Suffolk. In 1841, Alexander Nicholson, aged 61, and his wife Cecilia aged 50, both born in Scotland were living at Upper Street, Ufford with their two daughters Cecilia 20, baptised in Devon and Eleanor 18, both born outside Suffolk, who were the two art students. Their mother Cecilia Innes Nicholson died in July 1842, aged 52, and was buried at St Mary & St Peter Church, Barham, Ipswich on 12 July 1842.

Alexander M'Innes was born on 31 August 1779, in December 1821 had assumed the name of Nicholson in lieu of M'Innes. He married on 13 June 1812, Cecilia Innes, eldest daughter of Peter Innes of Fracafield, Shetland. Cecilia died on 4 July 1842. They had six children, two sons who died young and four daughters.

I Anne-Margaret who married on 31 August 1836, Henry Brown Longe, youngest son of Revd John Longe, vicar of Coddenham, Suffolk.
II Jane, who married on 29 October 1839, Henry Frederick Alston, fourth son of Thomas Alston of Odell Castle, Bedfordshire.
